Soul Love Now: The Black Fire Records Story, 1975 – 1993 will be released on August 14th on Strut Records.
After the inauguration of a new partnership with the mythical independent label Black Fire and the release of a definitive compilation dedicated to the iconic band Oneness of Juju, led by Plunky J. Branch, the English label Strut Records presents the very first compilation of classics and rarities from the Black Fire label. A pioneer in the field of spiritual jazz and conscious soul from 1975 to 1993 and founded by DJ and record producer Jimmy Gray in Richmond, Virginia, Black Fire Records follows in the footsteps of other influential black-owned independent labels such as Strata-East and Tribe.
The compilation Soul Love Now: The Black Fire Records Story, 1975 – 1993 brings together some of the label’s many strengths in one essential compilation. Opening with Theatre West’s powerful soul message, the track “Children of Tomorrow’s Dreams” accompanies the other nine tracks on the album with three tracks from Oneness of Juju, including a previously unreleased version of the classic “African Rhythms” recorded in Washington in 1975.
